I think I love doing this.
This all came as a bit of a surprise to me. I knew that I wanted to start writing journal entries in The Long Dark, but I honestly didn’t think that I’d enjoy it this much. I mean, I’ve always enjoyed writing and I’ve been wanting to start doing it more as a creative outlet for a long time, but I really didn’t think this would be the catalyst of it.
It’s really making me seriously consider writing the book I’ve been wanting to start. If writing is really this easy once I get a taste for it, then I want to make the most of it while I can.
That said, I do still want to continue writing about games. I have some things that have been sitting in my drafts folder for about a month now. One of which has been in there a little longer. I’ll try to avoid procrastinating too much, but like I said before, I won’t make any promises because I don’t have a good record of keeping them when I make them on here.
I really hope that you folks enjoy reading my survivor stories from The Long Dark, because I don’t think I’m going to get bored of them for a while. I will try to pace myself, so that I’m not blasting WordPress with them. I also want to try and keep them as fairly regular entries too; maybe twice a week.
They’re a blast to write, and I really like where the character Olivia is going. I also have an idea milling around in the back of my mind for another character; this one is a city boy. I’m going to impose some interesting restrictions on him, namely a lack of knowledge about survival. That means I’ll have to restrict what tools and resources he’ll know to use. I might need some help with names for him and others in the future, as the last time I asked Jennifer for help there, she hilariously gave me the name Bernard Renard.
I’m excited, and I hope you readers are too. I’m going to need a ton of enabling, so I hope you all are prepared to deal with my new obsession.
Thanks for reading! Y’all are awesome.
Do it. Take this experience and start doing some serious writing, because you clearly have the talent for it. I’m amazed somebody could take a game like The Long Dark and turn it into a journal that’s this much fun to read. I wish I’d thought of it (except I already have so many other damned things I need to write).

I appreciate that. I’m going to need to get started eventually. Might as well be now 🙂

Good stuff, man! I’m only just going through some of it now, and it makes for a pretty interesting read. I love how unlike anything else, gaming can spur unique pieces of creative writing, since unlike movies, we each take away something different from our experiences.

I’m loving the survivor stories. Keep it up! Also good luck with your book! I can’t wait to read it someday 🙂 I’m personally a wannabe writer who is working on a novel thing. It will likely never see the light of day, but it’s incredibly fun to write.
